sponsored by macao foundation and hosted by the institute for social and cultural research of must, session two of the “ambassadorial lecture series iii” was held in room n101 in the afternoon of october 17th, 2014. the speaker for this session was dr. su ge, ambassador of the ministry of foreign affairs of the people’s republic of china. he gave an insightful micro and macro interpretation of china’s overall situation and environment in terms of foreign relations. prof. keith morrison, director of institutional development of must. attended the lecture, presented the thank-you certificate as well as souvenir to dr. su ge, and they took a photo to commemorate the ceremony.

dr. su ge commenced the lecture with an introduction to the very beginning of china’s foreign relations history, followed the thread of the prominent events in the history of china’s foreign relations, and accounted the three main phases of china’s foreign relations: the “lean-to-one-side” phase, the “one-line” phase, and the current “independent peaceful diplomatic policy” phase. the lecture gave a full account of how china’s foreign relations has developed from “staying low profile so as to buy time for growth” to the glorious achievements it has made today, and how the progress in china’s foreign relations has been projected to and therefore contributed greatly to the development of china’s politics and economy. at the end, dr. su ge noted the potential impact of the changes in international relations on the strategic planning of china’s foreign relations and made some personal comments on the current situation and surroundings of china’s foreign relations.

the students have been very active in the q&a session. dr. su ge explained the current situation and development direction of the relations between iceland and china; he also encouraged the students to read more books and news that are related to china’s foreign relations, to follow the dynamics of domestic and international foreign relations closely, and to take up the responsibilities for the future of china’s foreign relations.
